A pub quiz and raffle were held on July 25th to raise funds for The Caroline Foundation. The venue was The 51 Bar on Haddington Road and the organizers were two close friends of Caroline from their school-days.

Despite the torrential Summer’s rain, the evening was a sell-out. The private upstairs room was packed with quizzers, many of whom were friends or former colleagues of Caroline.

The event was designed to be a fun and light-hearted evening, which Caroline herself would have enjoyed. This was reflected in the atmosphere about the place on the night. Everybody got into the spirit of the evening, keen to show off their intellectual prowess and win some of the great prizes on offer. Not only did we have prizes for first, second, third, and even last place in the quiz – we also had a prize for the best team name. Needless to say, the team name prize resulted in many hilarious and some questionable entries!

The quiz kicked off with a general knowledge round. We also included a number of more unusual question rounds such as: celebrity gossip; ding-bats; name that logo, and a song lyrics round. The cryptic Dublin place names round was a real crowd-pleaser. In tribute to Caroline, who was a passionate and inspirational teacher, we also included a round of questions on famous teachers.

A sincere thanks to all those who helped make the night such a success. Particular thanks to:

  • The pub-quizzers who braved the wet weather and flash flooding to support us;
  • The staff and management of The 51 Bar;
  • Our helpers on the day without whom we could never have pulled it off;
  • Everybody who kindly donated a raffle or pub quiz prize, including:
